Mission
The mission of PSA’s guidance and counseling department is to partner with parents, faculty and staff, and the community to provide a comprehensive program that assists our students in achieving success in their academic, personal/social, and career development. Through a combination of individual and group counseling sessions, as well as classroom guidance lessons, we focus on the unique talents of gifted students and promote academic excellence, positive social interaction, and career awareness.
Guidance and counseling should address the individual needs of our students through a series of developmental classroom lessons, as well as individual and small group counseling activities, with the following three goals in mind:
- To enable students to experience school success.
- To assist students in understanding and respecting self and others.
- To enable students to develop decision making competencies and career awareness.
Students may be referred by parents, teachers, or the principal for individual assistance. Students may also refer themselves. Conversations are confidential, unless you tell the school counselor that you plan to harm yourself or someone else, or someone is harming you.
